November Member of the Month
By: Kyle Chen
The High School Democrats of America AAPI Caucus has esteemed itself with the collection of enthusiastic and passionate young minds. To highlight the achievements and accomplishments of its members, the caucus selects an exceptionally engaged student each month to honor as our Member of the Month.
This past November, we are proud to recognize Kyle Chen as the HSDA AAPI Caucus Member of the Month.
Kyle Chen,a sophomore at Eagan High School and a proud Chinese Minnesotan, attributes his civic engagement to the exceptionally pro-civic culture of Minnesota. The advocacy centered environment, particularly toward students, has enticed Kyle to embrace countless opportunities to advocate for his beliefs.
Kyle is actively involved with the Center for Youth Voice, which runs the Minnesota Youth in Government Program. He currently serves as the Floor Leader in the YIG Hotel Legislature and plans to run for Speaker of the House in the coming conference. Kyle also holds leadership roles in a number of the Center for Youth Voice’s other initiatives including the Youth Advocacy Cohort, Model United Nations, Youth Day at the Capitol, National Judicial Conference and the State Steering Committee.
Within HSDA, Kyle serves as the Minnesota Political & Policy Director, where he leads efforts to advocate for MN DFL youth priorities at the capitol. In the HSDA AAPI Caucus, Kyle is a Section Editor for the PoliticASIAN Publication’s Features Section; the department which covers the profiles of Members of the Month. Appropriately, Kyle has been entrusted with the honor of penning and editing this very feature, reflecting his very own accomplishments.
Kyle’s advocacy extends far beyond HSDA. Recently, he has founded Vote16 MN, the Minnesota chapter of Vote16 USA, a national youth enfranchisement campaign in which Kyle serves as a Youth Advisory Board Member. He has continued to voice his efforts through other means at the Minnesota Capitol, having the privilege to speak as a guest panelist on Youth Civic Engagement Day and presenting his proposals at the annual Youth Policy Forum.
The passion and dedication of young leaders like Kyle highlights the sheer potential the rising generation holds, particularly among AAPI students.
Recognizing and celebrating the brilliance of youth is not only important—it is essential for shaping our civic future. The HSDA AAPI Caucus remains committed to uplifting and encouraging its enthusiastic and outstanding members.
With great pride, we honor Kyle Chen as our November Member of the Month.
